Emily Blunt says her daughters had a really robust response to The Satan Wears Prada

Emily Blunt’s daughters will not be thrilled to be taught in regards to the alleged Satan Wears Prada sequel.

Based on Blunt, 10-year-old Hazel and seven-year-old Violet weren’t followers of her character within the 2006 basic. “They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” Blunt informed Web page Six of their response on the 18th Annual American Institute for Stuttering gala.

It has been practically twenty years since Blunt performed Emily, the carb-hating Runway journal assistant competing with Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) for the eye and favor of editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). “It’s incredible that [The Devil Wears Prada] has such an indelible fingerprint on people and it’s people’s standby feel-good movie,” Blunt informed Web page Six. “It’s quoted to me every week.”

Of course, Blunt’s daughters — whom she shares with husband John Krasinski — were not completely wrong in their assessment. Though Emily softened towards Andy by the end of the film, some of her one-liners were as brutal as they are iconic and quotable.

Whether Emily Blunt’s daughters like it or not, her character’s relationship with Priestly will reportedly serve as the central focus of The Devil Wears Prada sequel. Though Disney has not officially announced a follow-up film, Variety reports the project “follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

What about Andy Sachs? Well, Hathaway has been pretty blunt about returning to this universe. “There’s not going to be a sequel. It’s not gonna happen. We can’t do it,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2023.

Her position somewhat softened in 2024, though she still had strong reservations. “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to,” she informed V Journal in April. “However there’s an enormous distinction on this planet now with expertise, and one of many issues about that exact story is it was about producing a bodily object. Now with a lot being digital, it will simply be very totally different.”

She continued, “Possibly me, Stanley, Emily, Meryl, Dave Frankel, Patricia Discipline… we should always simply all do one thing else collectively. That’d be enjoyable.”
